“So many fans from all over the world love my music – it’s the best feeling”
Jelly, also known as "Big Jelly" hails from Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Columbia, South Carolina.
Jelly comes from a collective known as Sosshouse, coined by rapper and producer Pi’erre Bourne.
“The main thing (that) got me into music (was) taking care of my family and seeing artists like Gucci, Meek Mill, (and) 21 Savage come from nothing”.
To him, music is so much more than 808s, kicks, and a vocal preset. With that resolve, he’s able to get in the studio and make music that separates him from the rest.
Spending a session in the studio with Jelly will help you understand just how he crafts his music.
He’s more of an on-the-fly type of artist, where his inspiration derives from “whatever comes to mind”.
Being an artist can be a double-edged sword for some. For Jelly, it comes with reward and trial.
To him, seeing fans moved by the emotion and power behind his art is the most rewarding aspect of it all. He even considered, at one point in time, quitting music altogether.
“It ain’t always easy, but even when it’s bad you have to keep going; if you stop, it’s only going to get worse”.
And so Jelly did what Jelly does best -- he kept going.
Large success came for the artist when he began collaboration with his current producer, Pi’erre Bourne. The two went to high school together in Atlanta; the relationship blossomed even more as Pi’erre started gaining more traction in the industry.
Jelly would go as far to say that Pi’erre is like a brother to him: “He (...) found my sound so it’s always a connection”.
Jelly describes his sound as “hustle/motivation music”. He hopes for his listeners to feel empowered and ready to take on anything.
Out of all of his discography, the rapper says his favorite songs that he has made are Bev Hill, Today, or London Cake.
