Ka$hed Out Like Kenni

Synergy is the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects, according to Oxford Languages. In other words, it’s when two things put together create something even better than anticipated.

Ka$hKenni, also known as Kenni, found this beautiful phenomenon in November of 2021. Something unanticipated came when she locked in with a producing software Apple users alike know of: GarageBand. What came out of this experience is nothing short of synergy.

Kenni’s brother encouraged her to record just to give the whole music thing a shot. Though it felt foreign, the budding artist dove in head first and let her brother do the mixing and mastering. From there, the rest would be history.

“He was like, ‘No, just try,’ he was like, ‘I have a good feeling you're really good at music, you know?’ I was like, ‘All right’. So I wrote something and then I ended up recording on (GargageBand) and the aftermath, like when the whole song was done, I would listen to it.”

From then on, Kenni would record upwards of six times a day. The love for music burned brightly.

Though the sound of hearing her own voice felt awkward and foreign at first, the repetition of recording, recording, recording would allow Kenni to get used to the routine. The recording process became “addicting”.

So why does Ka$hKenni make music, anyway? It’s “because it's another outlet for a way for me to express myself kind of, because I'm bad at expressing myself with my words (...).”

Living in what she considered a “dark place”, Kenni was able to paint a brighter picture with the vibrancy of her music. The music she creates is both for herself and for her listeners.

The 21-year-old artist has moved from place to place growing up. Being from Macon, Georgia and growing up in Rockland County (in upstate New York) was a culture shock.

“There is no music scene in upstate New York (...) everyone out there is creative but it's more of like, hands on art where it's like, drawing and painting and playing instruments. But as far as creating music with your voice, there's not a lot of that.”

Finding her niche would not arise until she moved to South Carolina and began throwing parties to promote her music with her siblings. The network grew bigger and bigger as she began meeting new people in the party scene.

Coincidentally, her biggest musical inspiration is none other than rapper and producer Pi’erre Bourne, a man local to the Carolinas.

“I listen to him too much, like a lot. (...) He inspires me so much because he literally does all of this sh-t on his own.”

That drive to carve out her niche, similar to Pi’erre, would come not only with networking in the party scene, but also with being a pioneer with the sound she creates.

Cybertrap, according to Kenni, best describes the genre of music she goes for with her various tracks. She’s always down to switch it up and experiment, though. She says that “it gives off that vibe…kind of futuristic, a little bit”.

Ka$hKenni lives by the mantra of creating your own destiny with your own hands, something her dad taught her and her siblings growing up.

“You can speak whatever you want into existence, obviously, positive things, but like, I don't know, It’s true. Bro, you can really create your own realities.”

Whether it’s being a Cybertrap Superstar or a soft and sweet vocalist, Ka$hKenni will always put her money where her mouth is.
